Dr. Wiaan Bedeker
MD, CCFP
Dr. Wiaan Bedeker is a board-certified family physician, by both the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of South Africa.
His journey in medicine began with the acquisition of his medical degree, followed by specialized training in Family Medicine at the University of Cape Town, where in 2015 his dedication earned him the coveted medal for outstanding achievement in Family Medicine.
In 2017, Dr. Bedeker ventured to Canada, where he further solidified his expertise by gaining admission to the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2019. His commitment to holistic patient care led him to broaden his skill set, completing a postgraduate diploma in Practical Dermatology from the University of Cardiff, and obtaining Canadian board certification in Aesthetic Medicine in 2021.
Following a fulfilling return of service on Vancouver Island, Dr. Bedeker assumed the role of Medical Director at a family practice in Richmond, before transitioning his practice to downtown Vancouver. With an interest in chronic disease management and a steadfast belief in the importance of preventative and longitudinal care, he advocates for evidence-based medicine and fosters a collaborative approach to health promotion and treatment.
Dr. Bedeker's contributions extend beyond clinical practice into the realm of research. His research on the Impact of Transthoracic Echocardiography at district hospital level, published in the South African Medical Journal (SAMJ) in 2015, underscores his commitment to advancing medical knowledge. He continued to be actively engaged in research within primary care, notably in antimicrobial stewardship in community health centres in Cape Town, with another publication in the SAMJ in 2022.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Dr. Bedeker cherishes quality time with loved ones. He finds joy in exploring new destinations and culinary experiences in the company of friends. Fluent in Afrikaans and English, with a basic proficiency in German, Dr. Bedeker’s appreciation for different cultures enriches his practice and interactions with patients and colleagues alike.
